How to make.. Giant paper mache Easter eggs

Here’s something really easy to make that is a lot of may get very messy though; so wear a reversible snuggle fleece and just turn it the other way round afterwards!..or wear an apron!

You will need:

Lots of newspaper

A balloon

Paper Mache paste (made from glue or flour and water)

Paint, tissue paper and sparkly stuff to decorate

Here’s what to do:

Cover every surface you can see with Newspaper…things are about to get messy!

Tear several newspaper pages into strips. You will want them 1-inch wide and about 6 – 8-inches long, if you have a dog get him to help! Dogs love to tear up newspaper!

Use a large bowl to mix your paper mache paste. The paste will be very sticky so use a bowl that is easy to soak and clean!

Blow up the balloon and tie it closed. Now you are ready to start with the paper mache!

Dip the newspaper strips into the paste and spread them onto the balloon. Completely cover the balloon, leaving a little hole at the top to remove the balloon later.

Let the first layer dry

Add two more layers of paper and leave to dry, this may take a while.. you could do a little drying dance whilst waiting! Or leave it over night 🙂

When the balloon is completely dry you can pop the balloon and decorate it! Use colourful paints or stick on coloured tissue paper and glitter!
