STAY SAFE! ☀
WE’VE POPPED TOGETHER THIS HANDY TOP TIPS GUIDE FOR HOW TO KEEP YOUR LITTLE ONE SAFE IN THE SUN!
These super important steps can be followed no matter where you are, whether you’re jetting off to somewhere more tropical, spending time at the beach, playing at the park or just chilling in the back garden!
1. COVER UP
Make sure you keep your little one’s body, arms and legs covered as much as possible with lightweight, loose clothing – preferably organic cotton! ? wink wink
During the day, why not go for a classic t-shirt and shorts combo, something that covers those little shoulders and knees to stop them from burning and allows them to run around and explore.
If you’re spending time in the water, either at the beach or in the pool, it’s best to wear swimming suits that have longer sleeves to cover the elbows, shorts that cover the knees and high necklines for extra sun protection.
Our SunSafe suits are perfect for keeping them covered up as they offer UPF 50+ rating 🙂
For the perfect finishing touch, pop on a hat to keep the sun off your little one’s face! Something with a wide brim to cast lots of shadow or with a long panel at the back to protect the neck.
2. FIND SHADE
A great way to protect yourself and your little one from the sun is to simply hide away from it and find a lovely shaded spot to set up camp! Make sure that babies (up to six months) are kept out of direct sunlight and, remember, stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm (BST) as this is when the sun is at its strongest.
There are many places that offer good shade, such as:
- Parasols & Umbrellas
- Trees & Bushes
- Tents & Tepees
3. SPLAT ON THE SUN CREAM
Combining clothing and shade together is fab, but for the ultimate sun protection team we need to bring in the sun cream!
Always try and choose a sun cream that has at least a SPF 15+ rating with a UVA/UVB protection and reapply lots of time throughout the day, especially when your little one is coming in and out of the water. Remember to cover those areas that are not protected by clothing, such as the face, ears, feet and hands.
Lastly, always make sure that you encourage your little one to drink water regularly throughout the day so they don’t become dehydrated – slurp!
