Frugi Time: Easter Creature Crafts

Frugi Time is a collection of fun and engaging activities that will inspire creativity and thoughtfulness in little eco-heroes and their parents too!

This month we’re getting prepared for the Easter break with some fun and creative crafts for little ones to join in with. Using old egg cartons Sheila ( @Rascals_and_Rainbows ) has shown us how we can create cute creatures, from spring chicks, to colourful caterpillars and bouncing bunnies!

In Early Years Arts and Crafts, the experience and skills developed during the artistic process is so much more important than the end product! These egg carton crafts are super simple for little ones and offer lots of opportunities to develop those all-important fine motor skills, using scissors to cut the egg cartons, drawing on details and painting with a brush.

Happy Crafting!

Create Your Easter Creature Crafts:

Colourful Caterpillars

What you need:

12 pack egg carton (or two 6 packs)

Selection of paints and brushes

Googly eyes (or you can simply draw eyes with a felt pen)

Coloured pipe cleaner

Scissors

How to make:

  1. Cut a 12 pack egg carton in half. Alternatively glue two 6 pack half-cartons together.
  2. Paint the egg carton half. We used fluorescent paints to make a colourful caterpillar.
  3. Allow paint to try, then add googly eyes (or draw eyes) and draw a mouth.
  4. Use a pencil tip to poke two holes in the first part of the egg carton.
  5. Cut small sections of pipe cleaner and curl the tops to make antennae.
  6. Stick the pipe cleaners in the two holes and that’s it! Your colourful caterpillar is complete😍.

Spring Chicks

What you need:

An empty egg carton

Yellow paint

Orange card

Coloured feathers

Paintbrush

Glue

How to make:

  1. Cut out two sections of an egg carton and paint yellow.
  2. While the paint is drying, draw a beak and feet on orange card and cut out.
  3. Glue feet to the bottom of one of the painted egg cartons.
  4. Fold the edge of the two beaks and glue to the top and bottom of the egg carton sections.
  5. Add googly eyes or draw eyes with a felt pen.
  6. Poke a hole in the top of the egg carton and push a feather in.
