Financial Controller

You will be responsible for delivering operational excellence in the finance departments for both Frugi in Cornwall and Tots Bots in Scotland by overseeing the team’s day to day operations.

The ethical and organic children’s clothing brand Frugi was born in 2004 with an aim to show that clever design, great ethics, and passionate people can help change the world!  Frugi Bloom followed shortly after providing a ‘bump to breastfeeding and beyond’ range with the same ethics and clever design to ensure longevity.

With at least 5 years’ experience as a Financial Controller, preferably within Retail, Wholesale or Digital Commerce, you’ll be highly experienced in managing the entire finance function of a business. You’ll be highly numerate and data driven, with excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. You will have had experience working for medium sized businesses with a turnover upwards of £10million. You’ll be brimming with ideas to continue to improve our processes and help us achieve our strategic goals as we continue to grow.


You will be responsible for delivering operational excellence in the finance departments for both Frugi in Cornwall and Tots Bots in Scotland by overseeing the team’s day to day operations. Reporting to the Finance Director on all financial and accounting activities as well as partnering with other leaders in the organisation to provide accurate, timely and insightful information, analysis and recommendations.   


  • You will provide effective and robust governance and control ensuring that appropriate controls and financial risk management practices are in place and operating effectively.
  • Manage the audit process, acting as liaison with the internal and external auditors in respect of risk and governance matters.
  • Prepare accurate, consistent and timely financial accounts and reports in accordance with local and Group Reporting requirements.
  • Provide and effectively communicate, accurate, timely and insightful information, analysis and recommendations that inform business performance and support and challenge decision-making.
  • Develop the financial plan to support the Group in achieving its corporate strategy and targets by leading flexible planning, budgeting and forecasting processes which can model the financial impact of changing external and internal conditions across a range of scenarios, thereby supporting decision making around the best strategic way forward.
  • Delivers robust and clear financial appraisal of investment opportunities to enable the business to take decisions in line with the business strategy and achieve optimum returns.
  • Responsible for the finance team development in both Frugi, Helston and Tots Bots, Scotland.
  • Accountable for the finance function and the output of both teams.
  • Provide feedback and reporting to senior management, regarding the performance, growth and future needs of your team when required. 
  • Provide leadership and direction to the teams to meet business and individual objectives whilst continuously developing your own leadership and people management skills. 


  • You will be CIMA qualified or equivalent and have succeeded in a similar role previously.
  • It is essential that you have strong commercial acumen with a flexible approach.
  • You’ll have advanced MS Excel skills and ERP experience, knowledge of Netsuite would be advantageous.
  • Ideally have proven track record working in Retail, Wholesale & Digital Commerce sectors in businesses with a turnover of +£10m.
  • You will be data driven and highly numerate, with strong analytical and data mining skills.
  • You’ll have excellent people skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the business.
  • As a skilled leader you’ll be adept at managing a teams and workflows across multiple locations.
  • You’ll have an in-depth knowledge of the entire finance function.
  • You’ll have a passion for accuracy and detail, with the ability to explain them in layman’s terms.
  • You will demonstrate drive, energy and resilience to work in an agile environment.
  • You will be able to work consistently whilst under pressure in a busy environment, ensuring deadlines are always met.
  • You must be organised, self-motivated, determined, outcome and results focussed.
  • Solid IT skills, with good working knowledge of MS Office programs and the ability to learn in-house systems quickly. 
  • You’ll be willing and able to travel to Scotland on a monthly basis to spend time with the team there.
